From Social Consulting to Corporate Social Work
Corporate social work, which external employee assistance services are a part of, has established itself in the workplace and continues to gain in importance and recognition. What once was the factory welfare service has evolved significantly in terms of scope – a development which has been shaped to a large extent by Movis.
Origins and History
Originally, workplace social consulting was intended to provide factory workers with access to essential goods. Its focus has gradually shifted to that of addressing work-related issues of a psychosocial nature– with the aim of improving the employees’ ability to help themselves: as a result, «helping people to help themselves» became Movis’ guiding principle. Movis services evolved to focus not only on individual employees, but on the company as a whole. Today, companies recognise the benefits of our services in many areas and make use of a wide range of services; Movis Counselling, Movis Coaching, Movis Care Management, Movis PreCare and Movis Training for supervisors and HR complement our traditional social consulting today.
Many Names – One Goal
Movis offers a wide variety of services and support. The «Employee Assistance Program» (EAP), has gained international acceptance, and originated in the USA initially as an intervention program focused on employee addiction problems. Today, EAP’s are used for employee consulting on issues from almost all areas of life – often with a focus on work-life balance and health aspects. Corporate social work no longer focuses exclusively on individual employees, but also examines the social and workplace contexts in which they are set; problems can’t always be solved via the individual. In some cases, context must be addressed in order to promote the overall health and well-being of employees, and consequently of the organisation they serve.
With its professional corporate social work services, Movis supports companies and promotes the well-being of people in the world of work.
Development and Cooperation Skills
Organisations offer corporate social work to their employees on a voluntary basis. There are many reasons why companies invest in this service. Successful companies do not limit themselves to fending off threats. Because they know that the success of a company is more than the sum of its achievements, they proactively promote development of their employees to maintain and improve their performance levels. Added economic value increases when people enter into successful cooperative relationships. Employees need trust for this. Firstly, in their own abilities and in the other person. Secondly, that in the event of problems or conflicts, all parties involved are willing to seek fair solutions. In addition, the employer’s duty of care includes ensuring the physical and psychological integrity of their employees. This is evident, for example, when intervening in cases of suspected violations of integrity, such as bullying or sexual harassment. Movis’ corporate social work makes effective contributions on all such fronts.
Corporate Social Work in the Workplace 4.0
As the workplace rapidly transforms, employees are increasingly expected to think and adapt with maximum flexibility, which increasingly involves digital learning skills. This transformation calls for new solutions from corporate social work. For organisations to thrive, advents such as socially networked work, new team culture and agile leadership must be linked to meaningfulness, self-fulfilment and belonging. With its corporate social work services, Movis establishes conditions which are conducive to the well-being of people in the workplace, and supports these strengths.
